The following is a press release by new science fiction author and good friend, Victor Acquista. He has been a great supporter of mine and I look forward to returning the favor.

Publisher: Mirror Matter Press
Publicist/Marketing: Erin Al-Mehairi
Sentient, an epic tale of humanity’s defeat and resurgence spanning 168,000 years of struggle is a science fiction debut from Dr. Victor Acquista…..
The Mind Warriors of T’rox, intent on being the supreme sentient race in the galaxy, annihilated the home world of Adden, a place where the people had lived telepathically connected in peace and harmony. The species slim chance to survive rests in a distant colony, genetically altered to block telepathy and evade detection by T’rox.
Anyeuros escaped the destruction of Adden, traveling disembodied for 168,000 years before arriving on New Adden, only to learn of the disastrous consequences of the genetic manipulation—violence, poverty, abuse, prejudice.
T’rox is on the verge of collapse, a result of social stagnation and infighting among the clans. Discovery of New Adden, the lost colony, provides a chance to reinvigorate their race with a fresh conquest.
However, discovering their past mission was incomplete, a resulting conflict ensues, but a troubled physicist, his young neighbor, and an artificial intelligence may be the key to defeating them. Heroic misfits and outcasts are woven into three intersecting story lines and will determine humanity’s fate.
“When we bear triumph or failure alone, we remain alone. Our strength lies in our togetherness. Bonded together, we celebrate our triumphs and we endure our failings. This is the way of our people…this we must not forget.” – Janna, First Colonist, New Adden
“There are limits of acceptability. Weird and eccentric are tolerable but just barely. Once you cross over into crazy, no one wants to have anything to do with you. Sometimes, you don’t even want to deal with yourself.” –Professor Jeremy Strickland, Earth
“When you rise to power on the wings of fear you must depend on fear to remain aloft.”
– Ka ‘Stan, Ghal of T’rox, 5th Epoch
Praise for Sentient
“Sentient is a superb debut, a rollicking sci-fi saga that beautifully combines action and philosophy, visionary ideas, and prescient social critique. In creating an alien world with its own cosmology and rituals, Acquista sheds light on our own struggling little planet, and does so with humor and style. This is a work to be savored.” –JJ Amaworo Wilson, author of Damnificados

Virtual FantasyCon Authors
The following are authors who also participated in the FantasyCon with me, Oct. 9-16, 2016:
I’m pleased to be hosting Kim Cormack, author of the fantasy novel ‘Let There Be Dragons.’
This is not a fairy tale. This is a nightmare…
Let There Be Dragons Book Three
Kayn begins her immortal life in Clan Ankh as the clan’s second Dragon. Zach is now her Handler and they both have issues with the situation. The five survivors of the Testing struggle to accept their new duties as they are thrown into situations far beyond their ability level. There is no longer a line between her twin’s memories and her own. They are now truly one being. Our heroine makes more than a few mistakes while learning to use her Conduit ability. Kayn feeds from Frost’s energy and lights a match within her soul. This causes the need for him she has always felt to overwhelm her every thought. She learns how to manage the Dragon that resides within her with the help of Zach as they fall into their fated roles. Kayn begins to accept the loss of the girl she once was by embracing the Dragon she has become. She finds joy in the pleasures of adulthood as she succumbs to her feelings for Frost. This is a tale about one girl’s evolution as she loses everything in order to become something far greater. There is beauty in letting go.
Last year we began the heartbreaking saga following the afterlife of Lexy of Ankh in, “Wild Thing.”
After a dark past, a teenage girl comes back from the dead and becomes a hitman for a clan of immortals.
After many years lost in places void of humanity, Grey found her. He introduced her to a partially immortal family. She’d been saved in so many ways by the Ankh. They were the family that she had always been destined to find. They would teach her to embrace the dragon that resided within her. She would learn that both the dark side of her spirit and light were equally important. Lexy of Ankh was a weapon, unmatched by any member of the other 32 clans. She would fight for all that is good even though most of time, her heart remained lost in the darkness. Greydon tried to be her handler, but Lexy of Ankh was meant to be a WILD THING.
The next series release in summer two thousand and sixteen is book two in the side series, “Wicked Thing.” I hope all of my Dragon lovers are ready for book two in this epic side series.
Kim Cormack is always the comedic author of the darkly twisted epic paranormal romance series, “The Children of Ankh.” She worked for over sixteen years as an Early Childhood educator in preschool, daycare, and as an aid. She’s lived most of her life on Vancouver Island in beautiful British Columbia, Canada. She currently lives in the gorgeous little town of Port Alberni. She’s a single mom with two awesome kids.
Next up is Tim:
Timothy J. Snyder. Find him on his Facebook page. He currently has his first published book “It’s Not a Shoot, It’s Just a Rib!” from Soul Monkey Publications available now. His second book “The Order of The Ravens, The Prophecy book I” in editing now. He is also donating a percentage off of all his sales from all the books he writes to cancer research.
Other fellow authors with Black Rose Writing:
Christopher D Schmitz
Christopher is an author of fiction and nonfiction as well as a regular blogger. He and his wife have two children which are not usually up for sale (but feel free to inquire). He secretly enjoys referring to himself in the third person (and coincidentally, his inner voice shifts to that of Bill Nighy whenever he does so.)
How do you get inspired to write?
I get inspired by so many things. I often take queues from my dreams or daydreams and take notes when I wake up. I also take inspiration from the works of others. For instance, I thought that my Kakos Realm fantasy series was growing too big in scope for readers to keep track of… and then I read some George R.R. Martin and realized that this wasn’t the case.
Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?
My most recent book, Wolf of the Tesseract (Black Rose Writing), just kind of came to me. I was actually taking a bunch of teenagers to a summer camp and had the idea. I sketched the character profiles and outline during a camp meeting and the WIP sat in my “idea notebook” for almost two years while I refined my ideas for dimensional travel, the agod Sh’logath, etc… for which I drew heavily on one of my favorite authors, Madeleine L’Engle.
What’s your advice for aspiring writers?
Don’t just call yourself a writer. Actually sit down and write. Don’t write a novel out of the gate; work on novella and some novelettes. Learn to start and finish well and also learn how to trim out what should NOT be there. Above all, learn to engage an audience with pacing and verb tenses. I often tell young authors I interact with on platforms such as Wattpad, “If you average more than 1 usage of “was” or “were” for every two pages in a chapter, you need to go back and rewrite it. Passive tenses make people put books down.”
What’s the best thing about being a writer?
The ability to not just live in other worlds, but to lead the way there so others can join you.
How do you deal with writer’s block?
I write. Even if it’s all garbage, I write. I lock myself away and give myself a hard limit to reach (word-count, finish a passage/chapter/etc.) I find that after a page or two the “blockage” (usually) lifts.
What are you currently working on?
A nonfiction book meant to be left on the back of a toilet. Seriously. But for fiction, I’m editing the three books of my Kakos Realm fantasy series and working on an apocalyptic horror novel called Fear in a Land Without Shadows. “The world was dead, and Jimmy Swaggert was the one who killed it.”
Jimmy Swaggert–he hates that name and insists people call him Swag, came from a home with hyper religious parents. As he rebelled and turned to the answers in science, his desire to disprove his parents pushed him into theoretical physics and metaphysics. It was Swag who uncovered the link between the supernatural and the natural. He called the creatures he discovered “Entities” because “demon” hearkened too much of the Judeo-Christian mysticism he so fervently rejected. Entities proved the ability to take control of most human hosts, turning them into the “Afflicted.” Secretly, the group who funds his research formed a clandestine military group which weaponized them as military assets. What could possibly go wrong with that plan?
Following E-day, when humanity experienced the extinction-level event, a small remnant of the population made it into the top-secret bunker. Now 313 humans remain in an underground facility, Ark I, where special lights illuminate every scrap of darkness, prohibiting the entities from entering. But on the edge of the bunker the lights have begun to go out…
What is your book about?
In a world underneath our own reality, magic & science are two sides of the same coin. After merging with her copy from an alternate reality, college student Claire Jones works with an inter-dimensional guardian in order to stop a warlock from shattering the laws of existence. As they flee his wrath, she must decide what these romantic feelings for him mean… warlocks aside, their mission is to rescue the woman he loves.
What book/movie/etc. is it comparable to?
If Guillermo Del Toro directed a He-Man and the Masters of the Universe movie but had the option to insert a dose of HP Lovecraft, you might get a universe similar to Wolf of the Tesseract. I’ve always envisioned it as a trilogy–I even have some ideas for the subsequent story arc–but we’ll see.
Where can readers go for more?
Readers should check out my website: http://www.authorchristopherdschmitz.com/and should sign-up for the mailing list. I don’t send out many emails–but when I do, it’s bound to be because of a book-giveaway or a huge discount on paperbacks. It also has about a dozen ways to personally connect with me via email or a variety of social media outlets.
